tsunami by Bet YeldemThe sand was hot against my feet
Rough and wonderful
There were diamonds on the shore
And silver in the water
And your eyes picked up the blue
A thousand things I meant to say
From the millions
Of thoughts washing over me
You became the sea
Until words no longer mattered
Oceanographic majesty and mystery
ItÂ’s got my heart
But underneath the calm surface
Lies another world
Of danger and darkness and death
Still I long to wade through the tide
How far can I go
Before the current sweeps me away
Into never-never-land
Losing me among the kelp and coral
Seaweed tangles coral cuts and bruises
Even the beauty
Is filled with possibilities of pain
And so it was
That I discovered your destructive power
Hurricanes have nothing on you
Tsunamis crashing
Ravaging little perfect beach towns
Your Gemini twin
And the damage to my heart is irreparable
All because that blinding white sand
Used building castles
Made me see things all wrong then
No diamonds or silver
Only the reflection of storm clouds coming
It was grey in your eyes

Posted by Anne Engelen on 04/23/03 at 05:22 PM This truly is an amazing poem! Curious to what was behind the title I got drawn in, because I have a poem titled the same. What I found was great! I love the imagery. I was captured from the beginning to the end! Just beautiful! |
