Strata

by Scott Cadence

Ive stayed too long
midway and suspending
in my own paint
where the shades imperceptibly blend into the light –
where years have passed,
drawn away from the calendars creased edge
forgotten,
like second thoughts
unwinged

Dusk stained
my eyes are open
to the yawning sky -
I feel the umbra
maneuver the celestial bodies across me
rapture etched,
A thousand ways of heaven

And how far my heart is underneath –

(the sky a constant reminder)
that I burn without intensity -
a dulling she piles upon me

So tonight I sail off with the stars
revolve around my own planet
lit by the heat of a brighter sun –
vacation In the nook of another galaxy
where god must be spending his Sundays
alone.
