Paralyzed (to J.F.)

by Melanie A Bennett

Why did it have to be you?
The nicest...sweetest person I could have ever asked to meet
From the very first day I met you I loved you
Who would have known...we'd become such good friends?
You've always been a shoulder I could cry on
Someone I could talk to about anything and everything...even my feelings for you
Why did it have to happen to you?
One little slip...
One major fall...
Paralyzed form the waist down...
Will you walk again?
You were always so full of energy
Of life...Always smiling...Always happy
Now you're lying in a hospital bed...
Waiting...Hoping
To walk again...

Author's Note: This poem is dedicated to a dear friend of mine, Joe. I have known Joe for four years and we worked together for most of those four years. This past weekend, before Easter, Joe took a fall and broke six vertebrae in his neck. He is paralyzed from the waist down and is recieving surgery in Philadelphia. Please say a prayer for him...
