The Crying Child

by Amy Niggel

Do you hear her?
the crying child,
sobbing in the night
lost to us,
never known to herself,
gone from a world
which killed her,
let her die.
A world
she never chose,
but loved anyway,
can you hear her?
those timy gasps as her tears flow
running down
staining her cheeks
a tinly lost soul
no home
no past
no story.
Sound familiar?
Sound like you?
like all of us?
the crying child
wailing in the night,
her lament,
pure as air,
clear as water,
strong as fire,
solid as earth,
and covered by darkness.
Listen to her screams,
of pain
of torment
find words in them
the only one you'll find
is the one you already had
Why?
Why her?
Why such pain?
why any of this?
she doesn't know
can't understand.
The crying child
tormented by the devil within
the deamons without
and the world
which spawned her
all she wants to know
is Why?
You answer her.

Author's Note: anyone got an answer why there is pain such as this in this world?

A searing and perceptive, yet beautiful portrait. Heartwrenching, but incredible.
