my inner monologue

by Rachelle Howe

i'm not happy.
there.
i said it.

exhale, child, and
reflect
go back to the days
where you would
be nothing but
free.
there were no bounds,
no ties,
no lies to keep you
grounded.

you used to shake off
the world
and let no man
hinder you,
no word,
no breath,
no look

remember the days when
you were valiant, and
protective.
(remember what it was
like to
place jon in that locker...)

remember who you are, child.
it's not too late.
it never is.
