Civil War

by Jersey D Gibson

Standing alone,
this battlefield,
that was once my soul.

Brothers in arms,
locked together,
everything's out of control.

I could've left this town at least a thousand times,
but thoughts of you draw me near.
I could've left myself at least a thousand times,
but you make me stay here.

Torn asunder,
what once was one,
the tear begins to fray.

Cannot stay,
I wish I could go,
Something special, ripped away.

I could've ended my life at least a thousand times,
but your smile just lights my life.
I could've killed them at least a thouseand times,
but your eyes make me drop the knife.

Splintered beyond,
all recognition,
never will the split lock again.

Shattered remains,
pick up the peices,
put them together to make a friend.

I could've left you at least a thousand times,
but you're the only thing left for me.
I could've strayed from the path a thousand times,
but you're the light for me to see.

it sounds like something i would write. to me it describes devotion, that no matter what even if that person is happy with someone else, all you want to see is them happy. even though you're the one who is unhappy.
