Full Breasted Moon by Jane E PearceWhen the moon rises
with a full breast,
and eyelids surrender
as the pillow is pressed,
time rolls back
to a ragtime tune,
that hung from the trees
under a full breasted moon.
The shadows of leaves,
so idle before,
dance to the rhythm
along the shore
when time stood still
behind yesterday's door.
Memories are cloaked
in a ragtime tune,
that plays over and over
under a full breasted moon. 04/14/2003 Author's Note: Charleston anyone???

Posted by JD Clay on 02/01/04 at 02:08 PM I always love a good moon poem, this one has that double breasted stature that calls with a lyrical sense and soothing tone. Hats off on becoming the Poet of the Day, Jane.

Posted by Alex Smyth on 02/01/04 at 11:08 PM Ah, Jane, I could get lost in this one again and again!! I checked your bio and see you're a "Naw'thuner" all your life. Reading this I could have sworn I was sitting under a delta moonrise, Poplar leaves whispering in shadow, warm breezes caressing...Absolutely wonderful POTD!!! |
