Closing the Door

by Becca Morton

What if I'm not ready to let you go
How can I say goodbye to someone I love so dearly
Isn't there another way to keep you in my life
Even though I know that letting you go is right?

What if I can't say goodbye
What if I can't close the door
When I think how much I will miss you
I start to love you more

So many sleepless nights
All of them Im thinking of you
I just can't imagine breaking things off
And looking for something new

My heart beats like a drum
As the words drip out so slowly
Tears drip down my face
While you stare at me remotely

I try to explain
But the words won't come out right
I stare into your eyes
As you start to cry

I glance at you one last time
I try to say goodbye - I can't
So I turn around and do whats right
I close the door

the detail draws the reader in, but it's vague enough to let the reader draw their own conclusion. i personally would rather have seen something more concrete in terms of the scene, but that's more personal preference than anything "wrong" per se.
