The Flesh of My Lips

by Megan Langley

Not being able to speak.
The flesh of my lips sewn together by the needles of others.
Open. Open. Open.
Try. Try. Try.
I fail once again.
Those others. They won't bother to dig through the rubble upon my heart.
It's like my inner thoughts are collecting dust.
Well, they may as well stay buried in the depths of my soul.
Will someone please remove these stitches from my lips?
I'm sure there must be something...
That I can share with you in return.
But wait.
That's why I'm sewn shut in the first place.
Nevermind. Nevermind. Nevermind.
I don't matter in this world anyway.

Author's Note: This is from quite a while ago but I had to type it up for an assignment in my young adult lit. class. It's not my fav but it definitely explains how I feel sometimes...
