Waterfall - ing

by Graeme Fielden

White cloud drifts slowly over frozen fields
Frozen door-mouse, sleeps soundly in his nest
Hibernates beneath the earth
Cracks and shivers with winters harsh touch

White cloud drifts slowly over frozen fields
Over mountains, snow peaked caps
Frozen creeks drip slowly
Downward, through warmed progression

White cloud drifts slowly over frozen fields
Drip, drip, drip, ice melts fast below
Creek builds, flows progressive,
Excessive gush of water starts a river

White cloud drifts slowly over frozen fields
Starts a torrent, gravitational movement
Downwards pushes heavily, easily
Pans into the delta, seeking falling waters

White cloud drifts slowly over frozen fields
Staring down beneath
Waters pound, sound, sound
Thunder beats into the valley with a steady roar

the scene you paint is very ethereal

Effective use of repitition of the first line for each stanza. Catch the feel of the cold, the melt, almost hear the rushing waters. Stirs images of flowing water, of rivulets to streams to rivers to ocean's depths.

I have just read this again and it reminds me of views of the snowcapped mountains especially in Switzerland with the water rushing down the mountain side into rivers below. Quite descriptive poetry.

Omnipresence and indifference of the rain as it hovers over the frozen landscape. Great read with plenty to think about.
