What is life without red?

by Amy Niggel

The rain falls,
and looks
like a box of crayons
spilled over by a child,
a shower
of brilliant colors
a myriad of shades
combining to draw rainbows
across the world
painting the skies blue
coloring the trees green
creating spring
in this grey city
where the only colors
once were
grey and white and brown
and of course red
for what would life be without red?
the bricks
the fires
the love
the blood
this whole city
is built on red
on the passion it symbolizes
and the pain it can bring
they have thier world
painted red
but now the rain falls
and colors everything
some ar estill shades of red
but blues
and greens
and yellows appear too
still there is underlying everything,
red
in this brick city.

Author's Note: Dedicated to Rochester NY a city that I swear was built entirely out of the surplus supply of brick form every other city every built!!
