A little bit of vanity (very self serving)

by Amy Niggel

I see myself
in mirrors
or windows
or puddles
and stop
I hardly recognize myself
I walk with head up
and shoulders back
I am beautiful
and I am intelligent
and I may not be
where I want now
but I will be someday
I love being me
being able to
look people in the eyes,
and say,
"hi,
I'm Amy,
and I am perfect."
It is a thrill
to know
all those idiots
who, in highschool
thought me so beneath them
are working
at McDonalds or Eckerds
and me
I'm going to a great college
with good grades
and wonderful friends
I can look at them now
the 'popular kids'
and know
I am as good as them
no, I am better,
because I don't think
I am better than anyone
I can look back across my life
and say
"Wow that was some F***ed up S***"
but I know
it has made me
into who I am today
I realize now
how much power I have
In a smile
I can create hope
in a word
I can break hearts
with a look
I can inspire
with my work
I can change the world
yes it is cain
but true
not only of me
but of everyoneI realize now
that my friends
are my friends
because they like me
not because they feel bad for me
I realize when guys look at em
they are attracted to me
me, ugly little old me!!
It is power
it is pleasure
it is wonderful
I realize
that I can change a life
even if it is aonly mine
I can effect others
I can help those in need
I can hold those with loss
I can cry for those with sadness
and laugh with thier joys
I am human
I am a woman
I am me!!!
and that,
that is power
and wonderment
that single vain statement
makes all the difference in my life
and it is my life
I will lead it
as I see fit
and effect the world
as I wish
for I am Great
and Beautiful
and Powerful
and a little bit vain!

Author's Note: This is dedicated to the emergence of myeslf in this world as a force to be reckoned with. And as a reminder of the good things that there are about myself
