When I Was Young

by Thomas K. Hunt

When I was young
It seems so long ago
Where does the time go?
Does anyone really know?
It's just a thing
Of time and space
The memory of a face
A feeling hard to show
I wondered what would be
What the future held for me
As I had just begun
When I was young

When I was young
With no responsibilities
But that was just like me
A rebel always free
Learning everyday
With bumps along the way
Not knowing what to say
Not knowing where to go
Feeling high then feeling low
Me just being me
Lost within my fun
When I was young

When I was young
I heard what I was told
Now I see it as I'm old
As my thoughts turn into sight
I know now who was right
Then smile as I do
Remembering the fools
The wonder of it all
It is not easily explained
It's just a simple life
With sunshine and rain
Time won't stand still
And it never will
It passes with the sun
Like a song that has been sung
From the days when I was young

definitely one of your best pieces Thomas - great flow and a sensitive statement of life on which to ponder

Amen. Misspent youth is a great tool to learn as we grow older. Funny how certain people were right, I still haven't told them all they were. Excellent poem Thomas!
