Whether living in the future
or dwelling on the past,
it always seems that
the present comes last.

I know where I've been
and I just where to go,
but what to do now
I never seem to know.

In a world of egocentrism
and self-helping books,
why can't I give
my reflection a good look?

Too many dreams and
so much in my past,
they say life's a stage
and I'm always masked.
I must be living,
'cause the vitals are there:
friendship
and alcohol
and parties
and fear...
When I've found something,
I push it away -
if there's an answer
then what's left to say?

{chorus} I sit and wonder why things don't work out,
but I know the truth - I manufacture my doubt.
I always look ahead and plan the next step,
but it'll never come, and that's a sure bet.
I'm stuck in between tomorrow and yesterday,
so technically I'm here... and I guess that's today.
