An Insignificant Life

by Quinlan L Gibson

If I ever had to return,
to life before you
i'd have to learn,
how to stop emotion that cripples
rather than heels.
How to stop lying to myself
that i'll be fine.
There'll be another.
I'd have to find the energy
to lift my eyes off the ground
for one moment
to notice another beautiful day.
To produce a single spark.
A new fire of desire
for anything.
My heart would sit alongside
tarnished love
up on the highest shelf,
out of reach.
There, it would not even belong to myself.
Breathing no longer involuntary.
Forced lungs
inhaling stale air.
Unable to sweeten it with you.
Friends priceless comforting
on paper plates.
Too empty to produce
even tears
and a blackness inside
I cannot fathom.
If I ever had to return
to an insignificant life.

"Too empty to produce even tears" wow. Thats my favorite line. Insignificant you are not! But I suppose love might feel less significant without the one you truely desire. It would be hard to know youre without your soul-mate. Thats what I got from this anyways.

Great poem Quinlan. I like the lines "Friends priceless comforting on paper plates".Sometimes the comfort of friends just doesn't cut it. Nice work.
