Still Dreaming

by Thomas K. Hunt

On my knees in Hatty's lawn
I can see you on the street
I can't tell if it's dusk or dawn
With your sister at your feet
Carnival lights at Gonze's place
Shed a light on the truth
They flash like beacons upon your face
I'm still dreaming of you

Big John's glad to see me
With a stretched out hand for mine
He's as warm as he can be
I can count on him every time
Then I'm back where I used to be
I find it hard to be true
It's only me looking back at me
I'm still dreaming of you

Imprisoned in this mind of mine
Locked away between my fears
Are the dreams that fill my head at night
They have lingered all these years
Do you dream in color?
I know I dream in blue
To know you is to love you
I'm still dreaming of you

Shadowed faces in dream-filled nights
They creep between the broken light
Whisper things I cannot hear
They always seem to reappear
Piercing eyes that gaze at me
That cut right through to the heart of me
Leaving trails of endless hopes
That lead to somewhere
But who really knows
You've always had this hold on me
That steals my soul in a midnight dream
The way you were in a time gone by
It always seems so real and true
Til I awaken from the blue

Only to find
I'm still dreaming of you
