Remembering Venice

by Becca Morton

The sound of a flowing Canal fills the night air
A Crisp Breeze runs down the back of my neck
as I slowly walk down a narrow sidewalk.
The night sky above me is as blue and as clear as the ocean on a hot summer day in mid July.

I walk down the dark hallway to my room.
I open the windows and glance around
A lady is doing her laundry across the way
A Gondola slowly moves through the canal 3 stories down.
This silence is priceless.
The moon shines above me and lights my view
As my ever sweet silence is broken
when the bells of St. Marks ring in the distance

The streets are busy with merchants of every kind
The dark allyways of the night
Have turned into beautiful sidewalks
That are shadowed by the buildings above

We walk through a set of gates and lay eyes on the breathtaking St. Marks Basilica
My heart stops
This building so Grand - so heartstopping
I wish this moment could last forever

Venice is called the city of romance
Yet, it is ever so more
The city of passion, and light and of love
The city were your time there can last forever.
