we have crabs

by Olivia Weinkein

we crave the company of Crabs.
watch with hesitation for Them
to wash upon our shores. you need
the attention, i need the love
and God knows they have enough of
both but yours is in hiding as they
are prone to do and mine is loving
the thrill of playing "peek-a-boo".
makes me (sometimes) rethink the
whole astrology wheel but who else
can make us feel the way a Cancer
can make us feel.

Author's Note: for you and for me and our little crabs that are as (un)predictable as the weather.

I've been in the water for far too long, what with all the fish and crabs I've collected--let's have a buffet...and you, you've just been wading at the edge lifting up rocks looking for that perfect lil crab...will that boy ever learn to quit hiding?

Ha. That's my sign, and I definitely get it.
