to kick you in the...

by Olivia Weinkein

you are far more significant than
a splinter in my finger.
a shame i never told you that and that
i never will. (some things stay special
simply because we leave them under the rocks
where they came from) a little light
can ruin the moment and i don't mean to
tarnish your surface. but sometimes it is
harder seeking wisdom from behind closed
doors and i would leave you to yourself
but we both know you will not get that far.
and i see even with my eyes closed, sweetheart
i've never been so rolled up into myself that
i couldn't un-curl and grace you
with my presence but the seasons are changing
and so am i. alarming, isn't it, just how
different i can become.
but you will always be far more significant
than a splinter in my finger
even when it comes time
to cut that finger off.

I love the attitude of the protagonist in this one. Excellent read.
