Forget

by Richard Vince

There's nothing worth seeing here...
Nothing you should waste your sight on.
Just a name written down somewhere
In the labyrinth for which no maps exist.

Nothing worth wasting your memory with
When you could remember love and beauty
And happiness and people who are worth
Something more than a level to aim
Higher than and words of wisdom.

So forget the earth into which
I spread my questing roots in the hope
Of finding something to keep me alive.
Forget the seconds I tainted and
The hours I stole and the days I stripped.
Forget the words with which I
Shredded your soul and shattered
Your heart and polluted your memories.

I shall crawl away silently and
You won't notice me leave or
Perceive any gap left by my absence.
Where I go doesn't matter as long as
I am too far away to gently squeeze
All the life out of you.

Wherever I go, the smothering waters
Of all that I hate about me but
Cannot change will surge after me,
And when I can no longer run
The cold and the lack of air
Will fight over which gets to kill me.

And you will finally have a chance
At becoming happy without me
Sucking away any joy that tries
To get near you.

So let your soul heal where
I caused it to bleed, and let
My dead roots wither away until
You forget there was ever
Any such notion as me.

Ouch is right. Powerful, painful imagery.

Extremely powerful, especially when I got to the last two stanzas. "so let your soul heal where I caused it to bleed" Accepting the pain he caused, but feels running away is the only answer?
