statesboro acrostic

by Emily G Myers

smoke from his cigarette drifts
towards the visible stars
all showing themselves off
telling stories of our past
every color represented
shining example of human unity
broken hearts glued back together
open minds displaying their struggles
reaching empathy unmatched
our little town is full of big ideas

Author's Note: It was difficult for me to write about Statesboro only because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to express the full extent of my feeling. Living here teaches me something new everyday. Not since my stay in London have I felt so connected to a city. Cities are precious things, especially when you honestly bond with one. Maybe I won't stay in Statesboro forever - I'm fairly fond of travelling around - but I will always think fondly of it. And the lessons I've learned here will always be with me.
