Sigh by Amy NiggelShe lay there
with her head on his chest,
listening to the rythmic dance of his heart,
feeling the gentle rise and fall of his breath,
and feeling,
for all intensive purposes,
the way she assumed a girl in love felt.
In that moment she could see it all
the diamond ring,
the white dress
the house
the car
the 2.5 children
a puppy
two kittens
and a goldfish named George.
Then he took her face in his hands,
kissed gently those ever ready lips,
lips pledged now to him and him alone,
and he looked her in the eye
sighed
and said
"I think we should just be friends"
He never heard the heart breaking,
never saw the pain that engulfed her
as her dreams turned to dust.
And years later she would look back
and say wistfully
that it was "just a silly crush"
but still inside it hurts her
just a little
a tiny ache
at loves first loss. 03/27/2003 Author's Note: trying to tell a story, no personal attachment here just the same old story told yet another way.
