Tree Thoughts

by Ulyss Rubey

Hereafter

I think of the hereafter
As birds upon me perch-
I could become a rafter
In the steeple of a church.
-------------------------------------

Deadfall

Alas I lie in this dank spot
The pith between my grains to rot
The worms to knaw around my knot
No one to pine about my lot.
----------------------------------------

Count The Bands

Count the years in my bands
The good the bad the broad the narrow,
Count them and you will understand
Happiness and sorrow.
