Freely Falling Until Forever’s End

by Megan Langley

The splintering pain shoots forth
From a centralized point
Towards every nerve ending,
Through every blood vessel,
Traveling down my spine
As if prying each finger
Off the ledge of the jagged cliff
In order to gain resistance to gravity
And fly freely through the misty atmosphere
Without peeking from these tightly shut eyes
That had once glanced upon your heavenly face,
Without uttering a sound in the silence
Of falling forever from these eager lips
That never even touched yours
Because no daringness emerged from within my body
To express the desirous longing,
And without touching any tangible object
Ever again, nor caressing anything
Meaningful to my being
Because I am falling,
Falling forever,
Freely falling until forever’s end.

Author's Note: Um, yeah, this is my escape from the perils of college...or, in other words, my procrastination of studying because I decided to write a poem instead.

Excellent use of alliteration at the poem's end.
