Unknown Destination

by Megan Langley

As I stare blankly into the dark, harsh night,
I see flickers of light passing
Quickly, sometimes slowly,
But nevertheless, passing by me.
Where is their destination?
Do you know, or do they even know?
Perhaps, I ponder, they have no destination at all...
They may simply continue moving
For the hell of it.
Moving down the asphalt path
Which has been created by others
For all of us to use.
With a determined path,
What chance do we have in any spontaneity?
Another flash.
Now I am blinded by a red glow.
This passer-by has halted in the middle of
The blackened path.
He turns and once again is on his way.
If only I could suspend my movements for
A moment of reflection.
But of course, I can't.
Time does not simply stand still at command.
Therefore, I must march on by myself.
And journey down the same path always taken
With no hopes of any unexpected miracles.

Interesting, I like the ideas this piece poses.
