A Dream? by Adrian CalhounA voice whispered,
but no one was there.
The room was dark and empty.
I sat up to look around,
and still nobody to be seen.
Chills ran through me from head to toe,
I snuggled in deep under the covers.
Drifting off, almost asleep,
again the voice called my name.
Out of the bed in a hurry I came.
Under the bed, outside the window,
in the closet, and down the hall.
All around I searched,
yet nothing could be found.
To the kitchen for some water,
and perhaps an aspirin or two.
Fumbling for a glass,
I heard the voice begin to weep.
Standing at the sink,
glass half empty now,
something touched the back of my neck.
Faster than lightning,
dropping my glass, shattering,
I spun around to see.
Face to face we stood.
A lady I had never seen before.
She motioned for me to follow her.
I watched her lead on,
never quite touching the ground.
We made our way outside,
to the garden by the lake.
Here we sat on a cold bench made of stone.
She told me of days gone by,
and of days to come.
My life was told to me in vivid detail,
by this lady of the lake.
Dawn breaking,
sunlight on my face,
in my bed I awoke.
Twas all a dream,
I reassured myself.
Off to the kitchen,
for coffee I went.
My heart stopped,
frozen where I stood.
There before me on the floor,
a shattered glass,
and two sets of blood stained footprints.
I wonder if she will return ... 03/18/2003 Posted on 03/23/2003 Copyright © 2025 Adrian Calhoun
