To Miles, because you'll never read this

by Trisha De Gracia

Quite a strange sensation
I must say
To love who you were
and not know who you are.
It makes me sad to think that you threw life away
and surrendered at needle point.
To think of all the things you could have done
and the lives you could have saved
including your own.
your words were so beautiful
so passionate
potent
that they often made me want to kiss your lips
right then and there.
So strong in their conviction
That they'd take my breath away

But now
years away from it all
I sit and remember the things you used to do
and bow my head
for the things I used to love,
and the things I still don't know.
