The Fruits of Our Labour

by Trisha De Gracia

What happens when soldiers look into the eyes of their opponents?

Do they see:
The Enemy?

Or do they see:

A father
A brother
An uncle
A son
A cousin
A friend
A human?

Funny thing is everyone shares a few common traits:

we love
we hate
we laugh
we cry
we weep
we rejoice
we are born
we die.

Sometimes you just wanna run up to people and smack them around. Shout in their ears "Whats wrong with you? That man has a daughter you know!"
You just want to try and make them understand that we are acting exactly like 2 year olds screaming for more milk, except we have nuclear weapons to bomb the hell out of eachother if we dont get it.
And we are living in a world too blinded by patriotic pride, hate, and greed to realize we all need to grow up.

All of us.

I believe it's quite f*****g mad that we can take our own sons, give em a pat on the back, put a gun in their hands and say "go on now, shoot up them terrorists" and think we're doing something good for the world.

It's a damn shame that grown men can't stop squabbling long enough to realize that they are killing their own nations.

How about we all take a nice big step backwards away from the edge of insanity and look at the world we have created for our children, hey?

Does it make you proud?

For all the lives we've lost for it, it damn well better.
