I watch smoke mix with my breath
In the cold night air and ashes
Settle like dirty snowflakes
On the pavement, the stale
Ashtray smell, the bitter taste
Of cold coffee on my tongue
YouÂ’ll never kiss me like this
Turn away, cough down your sleeve
I watch you, taking everything in
The way you cock your head
To the side when you give
Strangers that shy smile
And cover your mouth with
Slender hand to hold back
Your laugh that filters
Through the seams of your fingers.
