Mirroring

by Scott Cadence

A glass of water sits
clearing the light of the monitor
crystal
settling on my mind

And I see through it
so clearly -
if everything
could stay
as simple in time

The world
The reaches of mankind
The pride we teach our sons to have
The hate we have inside
The fear that overrides
In that last Final moment
when eyes stare off at nothing
and fingers strike aimless at the keys
she sings

she sings

that sad song
that I need to hear
that I have to remind me
when I’ve done so much
I forget to speak
By the silent darkness before rest
because we all need to be reminded
that we are loved
and there is a greater half to life
despite what they say,
I still believe
I sometimes have no choice
