Simply...You and Me

by Megan Langley

I always have one thought on my mind,
You and me…then I cry.
I wish that we could be together,
But I know you think you’ll love your girlfriend forever.
I hate feeling like just one of the rest;
There’s nothing like knowing you’re second best.
When my heart is beating in time with the tide,
I long to have you there by my side.
When I try to forget you with all of my might,
My eyes remind me of your heavenly sight.
I wish what it said on those candy hearts were true,
“Won’t you be mine” is what I’d pick out for you.
But I understand this can’t be real,
I’ve realized it’s not part of the deal.
Think of this poem when you doubt her love,
Because I will be there for you like a dove.
As a friend or a lover, whichever you chose,
If you’re there by my side, how could I lose?

Author's Note: I know it's simplistic but I wrote it back in 11th grade...my originial intent was to actually give it to the guy it's written about but I chickened out.
