A Representation of Perfection

by Megan Langley

A step into the warmth from the freezing cold
And then I saw you sitting there.
A representation of all that is as perfect as can be.
The object of my desire.
But also a representation of this desire that cannot be fulfilled.
Or so I thought.
You raised your eyes to meet mine
As if you sensed I was there.
Or at least had a feeling there was something worth looking up for.
Me. You ceased whatever it was you were doing for me.
You motioned for me to come sit by you.
Sit beside you.
Close to you.
Touching you.
So I did.
I cautiously glided into the booth.
Not too close.
Not too far.
We chatted about the obvious things in life.
But foolishly I decided to discuss my personal, very personal life.
I waded into my inner thoughts
Only to reveal them to your unexpecting self.
Yet, I became the unexpecting one
As you absorbed all the rambling words I spewed from my mouth.
You listened.
You simply listened.
I had opened my dispirited heart to you.
And you mended it as best as you could.
Your best was all I needed.
I felt a cold chill seize my body,
Not knowing why,
Until I emerged from my world of endless thoughts
To see a hand, your hand, covering mine.
It was overpowering and enveloped my timid hand.
A hand of comfort offering your protection.
Your stare convinced me that all would work out for the best.
Both pairs of eyes seemed to be searching the soul of the other.
You leaned in.
I could feel the heat radiating from your body.
Just as our lips brushed against each other,
My eyes faintly opened to find a dim light outside my frosted window.
I watched the flakes float gently to the ground,
Wishing that I could drift back into that deep sleep
And experience you,
For that is as real as it will ever be.

A perfect account of the moments vibrating with life. A scene one shall always long for. Moments of love, faith and hope.
