soul sacrifice

by Rachelle Howe

hello my dear friend
its been months, decades,
even lifetimes
since we've partaken
of eachother's skin

the ritual is clear and
we're both licking the blade
(sabotage never was before
such a fad)
entranced, i stare at the chalice,
ready to begin the chant
and you just
look away
into the candle light

(it always was becoming,
that flame, our flame,
the flames dancing
along the walls)

and there we were:
two flawed lambs
waiting to be laid upon the altar
of our own
self-indulgence

Self-indulgence rather than understanding. This is bound to lead us to where we dont want to be lead.
