The Lesson Shall Be Learned.

by Jersey D Gibson

Self-inflicted gunshot wounds are such a thing of the past,
suicide is a sin so that we're forced to live our dreary lives.
Television is just the modern-day opiate for the masses,
keeps us from caressing our wrists with knives.

Flipped through your daily newspaper's horoscope,
to remind yourself that you're truly alive.
Why go make Peace with an olive branch,
when you can easily make it with a .45?

See the face of your God grace the front cover of a magazine,
with their fake smiles and grins, placating we children of sin.
The new world religion is now entertainment,
with Oscars passed along with the collection tin.

Polls dictate the will of Americans with a percentage point,
too many statistics, so many opinions to encumber.
Look! Now it's your turn to have your say-so,
indeed, Man has become nothing more than a number.
