Give a teacher an apple

And you will get an A

So I vowed to try that once

And here’s what happened that day

I didn’t do my homework

I put it off all yesterday

Instead I tested my chances

Went out with my friends to play

We all had fun throughout the day

Nothing could ruin it then

But when I went inside that night

Something wasn’t done that should’ve been

Too late it was to do it then

It was time for bed you see

Tomorrow morning was another time

The perfect time for me

Morning came so sooner than quick

And I was running late

Grabbed my books and lunch and out the door

Not a chance to hesitate

Ran to class in such a rush

I made it just in time

Just as the teacher walked in the door

The bell gave off a chime

I realized then that something was wrong

When I opened my school book bag

I never did that homework I had to do

Instead I played mall tag

The teacher made their way around

To check each student’s work

I then thought I must do something

A thought of a little quirk

I pulled an apple out of my bag

And handed it to them as they came

“I’m sorry I don’t have my homework,

But this will do just the same.”

They smile and the class laughed

“How generous of you to do.

But I asked for your homework,

So a zero is good for you.”

As they walked away from me

They took a bite from their new snack

Leaving me helpless and sad

No A for me or a pat on the back

A lesson learned from this tragic day

Which there is no trick

A day you don’t do your homework

The next day, call in sick.

Author's Note: It kinds reminds us all of the "Christmas Story" where Ralph would always surprise his teacher with something else to get that A. Hehe...hope you like the good read.
