THE BABY ELEPHANTS WALK

by Graeme Fielden

The baby elephant marches on
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
He's leading with a gold baton,
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephant marches on
He's calling all his friends along
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum.

The baby elephant's march in twos
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They march along in golden shoes
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum
The baby elephant's march in two's
The hippo's groovin' to the blues
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum.

The baby elephant's march in threes,
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They're marching through the jungle trees
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march in threes
Their trunks are swinging past their knees,
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march in fours,
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They're marching past the beaches shores
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march in fours
The bathers clearing in their scores
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march in five's
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They're swinging to the jazzy vibes
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march in five's
The bees are buzzing in their hives
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march as six
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
Their marching crunching twigs and sticks
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march as six
The monkeys swing in through the sticks
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march as seven
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They'll stop before they reach eleven
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march as seven
The sun and sky; above is heaven
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march in eight's
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The zebra's follow on their skates
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march in eight's
They're marching through the big zoo gates
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants march as nine
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The sun is smiling, see it shine
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march as nine
The monkey's swing in through the vines
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum.

The baby elephants march as ten
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They march into their keepers pen
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants march as ten
Tomorrow they'll begin again
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum.

The baby elephants go to bed
A-r um-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They're safe and quiet in their shed
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants go to bed
They're quiet now; they're happy, fed
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants fast asleep
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
They're quiet now, can't hear a peep
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,
The baby elephants fast asleep
They're busy counting jumping sheep
A-rum-tum-tum, A-rum-tum-tum,

The baby elephants Walk !

cute little poem/song. make a book, with pictures, to help kids learn their numbers.

Graeme - this is truly children's literature of the highest order. Just fantastic.

I greatly enjoyed reading this again! Sorry I no longer have grandchildren of the age to whom to read it aloud! (Now awaiting for the married grandchildren to provide more little ones! LOL!)
