Dad

by Derek Gregory

Words never simple between us,
sometimes strained.
mutual love always quiet
rarely spoken.
The silence was created by
Separation and adolescence.
My free-spirit is yours.
Sailors in our souls.
Writers in our hearts.
I could never ask for a better father,
nor could I ever be better.
My goal
to raise my children
is the way you did.
Wth love and respect.

Well written emotion. The struggle of fathers and sons, must be universal. Our fathers grew up in a much different world than us. A very good poem, and a loving tribute to your father.
