Next to the Pressed Flower

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

Inside my Bible

bookmarks are there

invitations to weddings

sad programs to funerals too

A pressed flower

the one you put in my hair

that night at the fair

A baby pin, poked through

a pastel paper

announcing my niece's birth

And a bookmark

printed for our big day

5 years ago today

now, for naught

In inked remembrance

of our mistake

i like the list form and the way it all ties together at the last line. mistakes, yup, now there's something i can well understand even if i've never committed that particular one.

A well done reflection, bittersweet though it is.

Sounded like it was going to be sweet, and then just turned around at the end. Good job
