seven of forty-five (senryu) by Meredith C Hartwelli.
they broke down the door
and without hesitation
shot him in the head
ii.
her brother jumped to
protect her (before his wife)
but he was too late
iii.
a mother-to-be
with one bullet in her brain
one for the unborn
iv.
they opened his heart
with a single shot and he
could not save his son
v.
the child's scream beckoned
a round to his throat after
he has watched five die
vi.
his mother witnessed
destruction of all she loved
She died silently.
vii.
we share our karma
and love like family though
no one remembers

Posted by Ken Harnisch on 03/12/03 at 07:37 AM I'm with Daniel...that sixth stanza seems to say so much about much going on..and your comment, even more...funny isn't it, how poets, who claim to love them so, can bandy words like Hitler and Holocaust about so easily in these troubled times..and so wrongly. |
