Venus Spread Her Legs by Leah Laiben"Keep your legs crossed
for good luck." She said.
So I did.
For a while.
But that 'JackandCokeSmile'
did me in,
and the radio is never quite
loud enough,
I am never quite soft enough
when it comes down to perfection.
So he hardened up
and ripped layers of
emotion
from my body.
I opened wide
and let love
come inside. 03/02/2003 Posted on 03/02/2003 Copyright © 2024 Leah Laiben

I am always grateful to a woman poet who will reveal, in her own way, how her "other" affects her. I cannot ever really know this, knowing only how my "other" affects me.
Good one,

Posted by Mainon A Schwartz on 12/09/03 at 06:48 AM mmm, i love it. it's honest and unapologetic. i'm not a fan of the quotes around jack&coke smile-- that seems too affected for a poem this straightforward-- and i might be a bit more subtle in the title... but i only offer those suggestions cause i really, really like this poem :-) and so it's worth coming back to, tweaking a bit. thanks for this! |
