and he said...

by Olivia Weinkein

he said "i love you so much
that i hate you,
the way you twist with imaginary
seasons."

i guess some things are only beautiful
when in motion. when i sat still
i became ugly and solid
resembling something of a stain.
my inability to transform into a flower,
into a butterfly frightened him into
believing that he had come to see something
more. that he deserved
to see something more. i became
the reminder of how fairytales can only fit
inside of books, nursery rhymes.
that no matter how he tried to mold me,
i would never fill in that space.
and i know that some people are better at running
away from what they don't understand and he
did and he is still running and this proves that
some things are only beautiful when in motion
but i remain ugly and solid,
resembling something of a stain
and the only thing i have left to say to him now
is "i hate you so much
that i love you,
the way you twist with
imaginary reasons."
