Poesie Ring

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

I couldn't sleep last night

got so quiet I couldn't help but reflect

on the millions of things

in my life

I'd rather have been different

but now it's too late

Like the so many promises

empty like the vacant lot on my finger

where a gold band oughta be

I have to pretend that ring is there

imagine the gold

envision the engraving

'Vous et nul autre'

hugging my finger

just below knuckle

I can daydream the scenario

countless ways of asking

for a lifetime of love

but none of my Billboard fantasies

and Valentine's Day dreams

can make it real

...

make it real
