wishing

by Emily G Myers

I have to live everyday
- wishing -

I wish I were your pillow
your clothes
your front door
your books
something you see and touch everyday
a part of your routine

I wish I were the snow
the wind
the cold
the moon
or just anything at all
to get close to you

I wish I could fly
or run marathons
I wish I were a sailor
I wish I'd gotten my driver's license
any mode would do
if it would get me to you

and I have to live everyday
- knowing -
you won't see or touch me
I'm not a part of your routine
nothing supernatural or otherwise
can bring me to you
like Psyche on the wind

and I have to live everyday
- wishing -

Author's Note: someone let me know if that mythological allusion is right... wasn't it Psyche brought down the mountain on the wind? hm... by the way "I wish I had a river I could skate away on..." - Joni Mitchell

We all wish to be close to the one we love, but the tragic nature of love is that sometimes it is never returned.

insanely sweet—in a good, universal way.

but if you were the cold weather, wouldn't you ultimately drive the subject away?

*hugs* good poem, emily.
