The Hunt and Deers

by Christopher Shin

What is in the letter J?
All the stars burn in your
eyes from the forest to the deep
mysteries of the sea.

Is it a twist of fate that all
the deers that belong to Cesar
dash near me with the name that start
with J, and I stand with a bow and arrow
defenseless as I know that I can not
aim at your heart.

As I sigh in regret with the past
hunts in my memory I curse the stars
above and swear to the Creator
that I would never let my heart
slide unto my sleave.

I swear to all that is above that
your eyes and coy nature will never
make me fling my body into the hunt.
Nor will I ever drink from your
blue eyes again.

For I was fooled once by a doe that
wore Caesar's plate across her kneck,
and I knew from then one that I would
be cursed to only watch her prance
about me with my broken arrows in my
hands.

Wow... I could relate to this on an insane level. The "J" thing... maybe you didn't mean it this way, but most of the boys I've dated have had "J" names. :) Crazy, huh? But anyway, amazing poem! Loved this line: "Nor will I ever drink from your blue eyes again" ... wow.
