Red Earth and Life

by Melina Raven Maness Diebold

Imagine

the emotion felt

by the Great Mother

the Great Father

when with its first breath of life

the universal child parted lips

and with a gentle flick of tongue

asked "Why?"

All things gathered around

for the infant to account

giving each a name

in some simple struggle

to give them eternal meaning

with the words

Upon discovering

the futile sum of its efforts

the child's mind turned

to indulgence

and to itself

soon deciding to reach for things

to please and sate in excess

Driving the spade

into the fake vein of truth

leaving it to sway with the breezes and gales

never to truly falter in the tempest

Until the Earth herself

is mortally felled

by the feet that walks above

Henceforth and forevermore asunder...

'Why' is an impossible question reflecting awareness. But self-indulgence turns the basic urge of the created from MEANING to Pleasure. Meaningless pleasure at the cost of the creater. Yes, philosophy is SEEING.
