you're gone

by Olivia Weinkein

tie another ribbon on
sucking life through a straw again
and where'd you go
i turned around for only a second
or maybe i fell asleep. either way

you're gone.

and there's no need for bedtime stories
anymore or the love of sunflowers.
sleeping in your sandcastle again
and the sand always has a way of getting
into hair, soaking into the brain
drowning out any type of knowledge
except for, yes you were here, and now
yes

you're gone.

but the sea of dreams still believes
there's courage enough to face the sun.

and all other things.
yes, All other things.

well,

Most of them anyway.
