Abstract Expressionism by Phil P RobsonI drew a picture
that contained just one dot
my self, my body,
trapped in minute meaningless
wholly contingent inertness
incapable of melting
in societies furnace
I made up a song
with not a single sound
no beat, bridge or bar
its not a tune for the passive
its aimed at the highly interactive
who can add their own melody
that they deem attractive
I envisioned a dance
in which no muscle moved
for Van Goghs sunflowers
only breached gloomy inside
after the final breath that he sighed
while Szilards genius dances on
long after Hiroshimas people had died
I wrote a poem with,
you guessed it, no words
to convey the ultimate truth
the longing, the reason
that all my hopes lie on,
but its still in progress,
open to your alteration.

Posted by Amanda J Cobb on 10/02/03 at 01:49 AM I really like the idea behind this. Induces a contemplative state for me. I think I like the 2nd stanza best, though, overall, and because I love the line "it's not a tune for the passive." Very well-expressed, good work. |
Posted by George Hoerner on 06/07/12 at 12:51 AM I do believe if you mixed each of these stanzas with oil paints and threw them on a canvas you might well approximate Abstract Expresionist painting. I really love some of their art. I used to collect German Expresionist graphics many many years ago. One could argue that the expresionists had a real influeence them. Nice write. |
