I guess I already knew

by Amy Niggel

A reflection in your eyes,
brought me to my senses,
as I lay there in your arms,
feeling your breath on my face,
wanting only to be closer,
wanting not to let go
for fear that it was a dream
and you would fade away into the darkness of the room
or turn to dust and take to the wind.
So I held on
and I still hold on.
I saw in your eyes,
what you saw in me,
the trust placed there,
and somewhere in the back of my mind,
I heard a mish mash of songs,
"Aimee"
and "You're the inspiration"
and every other song I ever held strong in my heart.
And I wanted to share it all with you,
the songs,
the stare,
my heart.
And falling asleep in your arms
and no nightmeres,
but the best part was waking the next morning,
seeing your beauty framed in the early morning sun,
and knowing for once
I was not going to run away.
I guess maybe that is why I stayed at all,
I guess I wanted that,
wanted you,
I was shocked into being breathless,
even though
I guess I already knew.

Right on, that's beautiful Amy. Absolutely beautiful.
