5 Alarm

by Amanda Conlogue

Five a.m. mornings
I’m so tired, even
Before the sun sets
And I hate it, missing
The long nights when
We talked for hours
My voice naughty
Sinfully seeping into
The dark where you’d
Laugh as your lips pulled
Back into a smile
Over crooked teeth
Your fingers wrapped
In strands of my hair
I wanted it to be you
I woke up to, not
Shrill beeps of an alarm
Before morning light.
