Feed the Fish by Beth K HannahDid you remember to
Feed the fish
Walk the dog
Turn off the coffee pot
Dance?
I left you my confession
My quick adios
My heart tearing ink
And the feeling like
We have played this before.
You still love me
I suppose
Yet you often told me
Otherwise
Broke my soul
And I still love you too.
I hate leaving you
Making you remember
Having you work
Breaking your soles
And still I dance.
When the sun filters
And the trees bend
You will awake
And reach for my skin
It will evade you
For the first time
And my name
Will be but a whisper
Smearing the air.

Posted by Kara Hayostek on 04/14/03 at 06:19 AM I like this poem, and the title is what caught me cause i often refer to men as fish (dont know why) but the poem itself is great and i love the lines in the last stanza..."It will evade you
For the first time" good work
